BRANDED for CHRIST: 'The Apostle Paul's Tattoo"
What if you discovered that apostle Paul had a tattoo in his body...as a Christian, would you agree with him doing it?
Would you tattoo your body for Christ sake?
In Galatians 6:17, Paul makes a jarring statement: “I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.” In the brutal Roman empire, a branded body was the ultimate mark of legal ownership, absolute shame, and forced labor.
But Paul is actually tapping into a profound Old Testament paradox found in Exodus 21:5-6. The Law stated that after six years of service, every Hebrew slave was legally set free. But if the servant explicitly declared, “I love my master… I will not go out free,” a public legal ritual took place. The master would press the servant’s ear against a doorpost and pierce it through with an awl.
This self-inflicted wound transformed them into a bondservant, a slave by choice, bound for life not by iron chains, but by pure devotion.
True freedom isn’t doing whatever you want; it’s choosing who you belong to.
Surrender your autonomy to the Master who gave up everything for you.
In Jesus name, Amen🙏
