good afternoon once more I hope that you had a wonderful and blessed morning today so my name is Denny Hong and I've been doing the health session for our camp meeting and today's topic is about true and false methods of healing I thought it might be nice for us as a church to tackle on some controversial subjects because I believe that when we take on difficult issues then it can strengthen our faith and our understanding of God's love so traditional medicine or traditional healing has been practiced for thousands of years and I think that most of us we understand this and we come from this context um when I first came to Kenya there was this very interesting method of healing that if somebody has a finger that is infected with a sore they point a cooking stick at it have you heard have you seen that before you haven't so this is a cooking stick muo and what they do is they point at that finger and they said it will help that boil to go away so this is really prominent and I think it's been in our culture for thousands of years and it's believed by a lot of people and it's still practiced and even though times have changed we still have many conflicting approaches on healing we do have conventional medicine which is using drug therapy using prescriptions but there are still many people who believe in using herbal therapy and natural therapy and even some kind of new age therapy that we'll talk about so yesterday we spoke about nutrition and how there are so many different types of diet but there is one that God has given to us for our body is this true also for the types of healing processes is there one correct method and approach so let's pray as we start and we discuss together Father in heaven we invite your spirit to come into our hearts so that we may be able to understand and accept your messages Lord this world is so confusing with many different people saying many different things but help us to hear only your word to see only your face and to seek only your will for our life all this we pray in Jesus name amen okay so how was healing done in the time of Jesus Matthew 10 7 and 8 says the Kingdom of Heaven is at hand heal the sick cleanse the lepers raise the Dead cast out the Devils freely ye have received and freely he shall give so it's been a a long time since I cast out devils and raised the dead but I'm joking with you so this is a time healing in the time of Jesus's days right and as you recall it was not just Jesus who was healing it was also his Apostles and his disciples at the hands of the apostles were many signs and Many Wonders wrought among the people in so much that they brought forth the sick into the streets and laid them on the bed and couches that the shadow of Peter might overshadow some of them so this is saying that even without physically touching them as he was walking by his shadow would be healing people so healing is not only for medical doctors Peter wasn't a doctor we know that out of those disciples there was one doctor his name was Dr Luke good yeah so healing is not only for doctors isn't it but the question is if it worked for Jesus and for his disciples then why won't it work for me why is this not working working now Ellen White tells us the way in which Christ worked was to preach the word and to relieve suffering by miraculous works of healing but I am instructed that we cannot now work in this way for Satan will exercise his power by working miracles God's servants today could not work by means of Miracles because spirus works of healing claiming to Divine will be rought so she's saying that there's a lot of fake healing going on now and we shouldn't be surprised I mean in the US just in the last 50 years there was a big Resurgence of Faith healing so what is Faith healing Faith healing is having faith that you are healed so you're healing yourself through your faith through your own belief they're saying your mind has the power to heal yourself and this is more popular among the Pentecostal Christians that Worship in our country if you have faith you can be healed so they were healing people who are blind the deaf the lame lame people with HIV people with a broken leg so they were healing many many different things but you know how does this relate with God's method of healing and how is this biblical is this founded on our spiritual basis Ellen White tells us as well as the Bible that false Messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders and they will deceive even the elect so what does elect mean these are your college professors your University lecturers these are the presidents these are our church leaders the deception will be for everybody the spirit of devils will go Force to the kings of the Earth to the whole world and by these agencies rulers and subjects alike will be deceived persons will arise pretending to be Christ and they will perform wonderful miracles of healing and profess to have Revelations from Heaven contradicting the testimony of scripture so you can see that Satan can use healing as a trick so you cannot always believe that someone was healed that it was from God and I think that's really difficult because normally when someone is healed we always assume that God is the one who healed them isn't it but could it be that there are some of us who have been faithful healed by faith but that was only through the works of Satan so we cannot trust all the faith healing that is going on and Satan is so clever you know I think that he knows the Bible tells us that he knows scripture very very well he knows the Bible more clearly than you or I do right so when someone knows the bible really well they can use it as a weapon and trick people Mark 16 says this is a sign for those who believe in me in my name they will cast out Devils they will speak with tongues they will take up serpents and they drink deadly things and it will not hurt them they will lay their hands on the sick and recover so a lot of people in the US they have believed that if I am a True Believer I will not be sick if I am a True Believer and I drink this poison I will not die if I have the spirit of God in Me and the snake bites me I will not die I will not be poisoned so we have these churches that they go through the service they bring a poisonous snake and they say how many of you have faith that you will be healed that God protects you against sickness and so you may have some leaders in the church they say I believe the spirit is in me and they go there and they touch the snake and when the snake bites them they see whether or not they die I don't know if this kind of practice is still pervasive but this was the type of practice that a lot of very devout and spiritual people believed the Believers would not seek medical help because they believe that those who are truly faithful and have the spirit of God they don't need to take medicine because God will heal them so this work of healing and of believing is not just for pastors or doctors it tells us that it's for all lay people so that's you that's me that's my friend my neighbor my wife who is an accountant it's everybody the words spoken to our disciples are spoken to us also none need to think that the day for working as the apostles had worked is PED men and women can today work for Christ as has given him an example to all will come opportunities to minister to sinick souls and to those in need of physical healing physical healing is a science of heavenly birth bound up with the gospel Commission in every place the sick may be found and those who go forth as workers for Christ will be true Health reformers prepare to give those who are sick the simple treatments that will relieve them and then and then what oh sorry you're not able to see and then pray with them it says that in doing of this work we will be sure to be followed with good results so in all the work that the Bible has shown us the work is together of praying of preaching of healing and of teaching those work are not to be separated and this is the work of all our members so some people say you know I'm not a trained doctor I'm not a trained healthcare worker I'm not a nurse I'm a I'm an accountant by profession or I'm an engineer by profession so how can I do this work will God still bless the work and how will people receive me and should I be doing a this work I think this is an important question to ask because nowadays in our society and culture if you don't have a license to do work then you may get sued in fact some of our sanitariums and our church sponsored institutions we've had um issues happen where they don't have licensing to practice and people will say oh you didn't have a real doctor there so we're going to sue you because there was some injury but should we still continue this work and what is our role as a church for this type of healing method so I told you the first reason why God no longer allows for miraculous healing and it's because Satan can use a miraculous healing to deceive us this is another reason why miraculous healing no longer works some have asked me why should we not like Christ pray for the sick that they may be healed miraculously I have answered to them suppose we were to do this in all cases how many would appreciate the healing would those who were healed become Health reformers or continue to be Health destroyers so this is another reason why we can no longer have miraculous healing and I'm not saying that God no longer works miracles because I'd have seen Miracles when I was a trainee around 15 years ago I remember that there was a 75-year-old man so he was a grandpa he was taking care of his children and watching the children and they had a a swimming pool in their yard and this Grandpa was walking and he slipped on a piece of water that was on the deck and he had fallen into the pool and it was around 15 20 minutes before anyone had found him at the bottom of the pool and by the time they called the ambulance they brought him to the hospital his heart had stopped his brain activity was gone and he was just in a coma state but after being in the ICU for 2 weeks I saw that he was actually coming back to life like his brain activity came back and was still able to move and after a few months later he was able to walk out of the hospital as if nothing happened so you know Miracles still happen today we don't know why some people experience Miracles and some people don't on Saturday um for the afternoon session I'll be talking about our faith and healing and why is it that some people are healed but some people are not healed like what is the role of healing in our faith and our own spiritual journey so I'm just saying that Miracles still do occur but it's obviously not as often if something happens all the time it's no longer called a miracle isn't it so Ellen White tells us that the reason why it also doesn't work is because we need to do our part we cannot just pray and ask God to heal us without fixing ourselves throughout the week we've been talking about the problem of sin and the sin is the issue why we're sick because the wages of sin is suffering illness and death isn't it so what does Ellen White say she says many have expected that God will keep them from sickness merely because they have asked him to do so but God did not regard their prayers because their faith was not made perfect by works God will not work a miracle to keep those from sickness who have no care for themselves but are continually violating the laws of health and make no effort to prevent disease when we do all we can on our own part to have health then we may expect that the Blessed results will follow and then we can ask God in faith to bless our efforts for the preservation of Health he will then answer our prayer if his name can be glorified thereby but let all of us understand that we have a work to do God will not work in a miraculous manner to preserve the health of persons who are not taking a sure cause to make themselves Sick by their careless inattention to the law of Health um on Monday I had to take my son into the dentist usually we take them in once a year and we take a look at their teeth see if it's okay um where we are in the really rural setup there's not a local dentist who's there every day Sometimes they come once a week once a month they're seconded by the government so you know when we come into Nairobi maybe once every six months or once a year we take them to the dentist you know the dentist was looking at his teeth and says okay everything looks pretty good and then my son son was asking he says can I have some candy my my teeth are okay can I eat some sweets and you know I was I was telling him I said if you eat sweets there's a risk that you won't have good teeth you know and then I was also in our hospital we have another child one of our neighbors and they were saying dear Lord I really love to eat candy but I don't want to have cavities so please help take away all the cavity and my painful teeth so I can continue to eat right but God doesn't work that way you cannot eat candy and ask God to make your teeth healthy that's just not how he works right he tells you I want your teeth to be healthy but I love you too much to let you continue sinning so what I'm going to do is I'll give you a small tooth pane so that you will stop eating the candy because it's going to destroy other parts of your body so we have a part to do now I want to transition now to Medical missionary work and the church and I think that this is an area that's a bit of a sore subject because a lot of people attribute medical missionary work to something that is not Church related they think that it's um conducted by Heretics maybe people who are not trained and they are doing damage they go against conventional medical practices they are completely against any medication don't take any drugs don't visit the hospital don't see the doctor only take herbs only do things that you know are natural okay so this is not just Africa because we actually have a large following even in the US so this is a group called medical missionary work and it's a Facebook group and I don't know if you can see but there are 7,000 members so this is around the whole world and we talk about different ways that medical missionaries do work for their people and I think that it has a very Noble intention and purpose the purpose was that we should use medical ministry as a form of evangelism so that our patience can receive um salvation so it's the right arm of the Gospel so we put it together with our Bible and we say you know we heal your body but we also heal your mind and we heal your problem of sin so we bring you to repentance but you know the problem is now that we don't really talk about sin or repentance but we only focus on natural therapies and almost every thread or every conversation in this Facebook group is about ways that we can heal disease naturally I'll give you an example so someone was saying oh I'm having a lot of stomach pain and diarrhea and I think that there's something upset do I need to take some flagel and then one of the members said no flagel is very harmful it's an antibiotic Ellen White says drugs are poison don't use that instead use something natural use some je je is bleach so they were telling people to drink je in very small diluted amounts to clean their colon I'm sure many of you would agree that that's crazy you know the drink bleach but there are a lot of people who believe that it's very natural and it's what we should be doing another old lady she was a 70-year-old lady she was having some blindness she was saying I can no longer read I'm having some problem seeing my vision is very blurry she says I went to a doctor they told me I have some cataracts what can I do to naturally heal myself out of these cataracts and then another well-intentioned and well-meaning medical missionary says oh you need to put some lemon drops and charcoal into your eyes so she was dropping small small bits of lemon water in the eyes because lemon has you know like a purifying effect and they use lemon water and charcoal for everything they said you us should drop some charcoal into your eyes some lemon water and she was saying oh it's so painful it's so painful my eyes are hurting from this lemon water and this charcoal and they said no you just need to continue doing it continue doing it so you know when we have examples like these it's no wonder that people are looking upon them in a in a negative aspect right they're saying these people are really causing harm like we cannot trust them we cannot believe what they're saying so what is the truth is conventional medicine bad is natural medicine good is natural medicine bad is conventional medicine good so you know it's it's difficult because we have so many people in the church that are split and these are godly people they love Jesus they believe in what we believe in and they have a very strong principle that God can heal things so I just wanted to give you a little bit about my background and tell you where I'm coming from so before I came to Kenya um I was working at a large Hospital an academic center and I was teaching medical students as a professor so and I was trained um primarily as a conventional medicine doctor so I went to a standard medical school similar to jquad uan those places and we were taught regular conventional medicine how to do surgery how to do drug therapy OBG Pediatrics and those things it was very traditional and after I had finished I decided that you know maybe there's something more than just traditional medicine maybe there's something else so I had gone to some lifestyle centers I went to Wildwood Lifestyle Center I went to Uchi Pines and I learned about the different ways that medical missionaries use therapies to heal people and it opened my eyes and my mind to a brand new world there was a whole new world out there where people don't dispense drugs and they use water healing they use charcoal they focus on nutrition and diet and exercise and they go all the way back to the Newar principles of Ellen White and after doing that I came to Kenya and so I I had both experiences and I had both training you know I had done the conventional medicine and I had also done the natural medicine and I came to Kenya and I'll tell you more about the testimony toward the end about what I've experienced but what I want to share with you is that the bible really does give us instruction on how we should follow and I do want to tell you that times have changed but the principles are still the same okay so the thing is that God's principles no matter if it's the 19th century 18th century 20th century his principles are the same for healing and for health and the bottom line is that he wants us to be healthy so if he wants us to be healthy and he's given us instruction I think we can trust in God can we trust in God yes okay so the first issue are drugs helpful or are drugs harmful so let me give you these quotes that I think a lot of preachers or a lot of medical missionaries use okay let Physicians teach the people that the restorative power is not in drugs but in nature disease is an effort of nature to free the system from conditions that result from a violation of the laws of Health she writes more drug medication as it is generally practiced is a curse educate away from drugs use them less and less and depend more on hygienic agencies then nature will respond to God's Physicians pure air pure water proper exercise a clear conscience drugs need seldom be used so I think this language is very strong she's saying basically drugs are cursed drugs are bad right there's there's no question that she says drugs are harmful and she says drugs are not restorative and we see this also in in conventional medicine in the hospital sometimes doctors give you medicines and it actually makes you more sick have you ever experienced a side effect from a drug that makes you more sick after you started taking it yes you have so we do know that medicines can make us sick but what about medicines that are very helpful like what about malaria medicines what about some medicines that are used to treat for example HIV what about some other medicines that we know they're beneficial are those also cursing so I think that that's what we need to discover is this drug going to be a curse or is this going to be a blessing is it helpful or is it harmful and she writes more that people need to be taught that drugs don't cure disease it is true that they provide present relief and the patient appears to recover but this is because the Nature has sufficient vital force to expel the poison and correct the conditions and health is recovered in spite of the drug but in most cases drug only changes the form and location of disease so you know I want to give you some terms that we use to um explain treatment for patients so there are three words the first word is treatment the second word is cure and the third word is remission so cure means that you've had this disease and we've eradicated it and it will never come back okay it will never come back so let's say that you have cancer if I'm saying you're cured of cancer it means you will no longer have this disease in the future again remission means I'm controlling the disease and it's now so low that it will not come back but if it does come back then it's called remission I put it I submitted it into remission it's submitted I'm pushing it under the water okay so that's remission and cure treatment or management means that you have a condition and I am directly addressing that issue I'm treating you with medicines to treat that directly okay and I think you know what Ellen White writes is actually true in that disease is not really cured because let me tell you any that causes you to get sick if you treat that but you don't treat the underlying issue you'll get sick again are you getting what I'm saying and I use this example quite a bit and I think it's helpful because it helps people understand let's say that you come from home from work you walk into the kitchen and you see water all over the flooor your kitchen is flooded there's water and then you look at the sink and that water sink is on maybe your son was trying to walk wash his hands and didn't turn off the tap or somebody had just left it on it was broken what is the first thing that you would do would you start immediately start mopping the floor and getting rid of all the water in the floor what would you do yes you would probably go and turn off the faucet you turn off the tap make sure it's sealed so the water stops flowing right you see this is the problem that we have in medicine you're only looking at the water on the floor and you're trying to mop up as much as you can but you're not closing the tap where the water is coming out of so instead of treating the reason why my patient is in pain and suffering we instead give them painkillers and we just mop up the floor we do all these things without addressing the main issue of why they are sick and I think that's why Ellen White writes that a lot of the drugs are harmful because the drug doesn't actually cause a cure of the initial problem let me give you an example for malaria my patient comes in the malaria parasite is in their blood I treat them with antim malarias and the malaria is gone are they cured are they going to never have malaria again no because you know that malaria is carried by mosquito and the problem is that as long as that mosquito is there with a parasite they're going to have a risk for malaria right so we need to do things to prevent them from getting bitten which means using the netting or making sure that there's no mosquitoes around the area but how any of us actually focus on those preventive strategies but we're just so focused on treating them with the drugs and then they come back again after one month malaria again come back again malaria again but did anyone take time to actually educate them that prevention and putting a mosquito net can prevent them from being hospitalized so that's why I want to address you that medication may not always be helpful and that's why Ellen White was against it and now more and more there's evidence that medications can make us very sick in fact some studies say that it is one of the top five killers of why people have death is because of medication prescription there are medicines that can save our life but there are many many many many medicines which are also poisonous and toxic and can destroy our life so do you really need all these drugs drugs when is it appropriate to use a drug and when is it appropriate to not use a drug I think that's the biggest question so science has already discovered all these dangers of medications let me give you an example I have a patient who comes in for a headache their head is hurting and of course we want to help them so the clinician give gives them a painkiller they gives them a high dose of ibuprofen which is a painkiller but the problem is that this painkiller has a side effect does anyone know what the side effect of this strong painkiller is yeah it can cause some ulcers so in people who tank painkillers and they didn't eat anything in their stomach it can cause a lot of stomach discomfort gas and ulcers and this Ulcer Disease then they they come back the next week now my my my headache is gone my stomach is hurting can you give me something he said okay your stomach is hurting let me go ahead and give you some more drugs for your acid for your peptic disease okay so they give them some Anta acid some hpylori medicine they give them some omeprazol I'm I'm sure you know all these drugs right yeah they give them omeprazol afterward and then it leads to more complications then they have side effects from this and then they take more and more drugs whereas maybe in the beginning when they had a headache they should have just slept a little bit more drank a little more water maybe avoided some stress and find out what the C culprit was um the headache right so I want to show you this photo and as you can tell this photo looks like it's a pharmacy right you have shelves and you have many drugs on there but what you don't know is that this is a pharmacy of natural medicine so it has only herbal therapies so along here there's many vitamins many minerals many different things but it looks just like a regular Pharmacy you can't tell from the outside right I mean for all you know that could be just the chemo medicine or some painkillers you don't know what it is and this was taken at one of our lifestyle centers and what I want to tell you is that sometimes we can be so focused on using natural Therapies that it can be like a drug for us too if you package it up in a pill and you say take this three times a day three times three take three tablets three times a day versus taking this one three times a day the way that you're dependent on this is just like you're being dependent on other drug therapy are you getting what I'm saying and you know what's even more interesting is that a lot of our conventional drugs now have their basis from nature which is also you can argue natural I don't know if any of you recog recognize these plants do any of you recognize any of these plants that are in the photo so you may not recognize the plant but I'm sure you'll recognize the drug okay so that first pink flower is called Periwinkle so Periwinkle is the the most um common um potent active drug in a drug called Vin blasting or vin Christine which is a very popular chemotherapy drug that we use for cancers the one on the bottom that bright yellow flower that one is called CIA plant and that is where our drug Senna comes from so Senna or senot is a medication that's help for constipation all of you should know what that green leafy plant is that plant was the reason why this um Chinese um scientist got a Nobel Prize so that plant is called wormwood or artmia do you know what that's for artmia so artmia is where we got the drug arate have you heard of arate or amether so that is used now for treatment of malaria it's the gold standard so they discovered that when they were extracting the compound from that plant the next pink one that's called The Fox Glove plant and it's where we derive the drug called dejin so if you have some heart problems or if you have some cardiac issues you may be on dexin and then that very very last one the dark plant is called the Fox Glove plant oh sorry it's called the mukuna plant and that is where we find the drug called Carbidopa libida for Parkinson's Disease so you know the drugs that we have it's not that it's just some kind of toxic chemical we found in a lab but it goes to show you that God has created natural healing in his plants you know and in the Bible it in Genesis it tells us out of the seed bearing herb out of things I've given to you all these things are for your health you shall eat them right but the problem is we probably don't eat enough um herbs and seeds and natural things that's why we get sick too so what is Ellen White's view on drug therapy still valid today are drugs still as toxic today as it was back then and I think this is something that requires us to understand the historical value you know when we discover when we read about the Bible when we read about Ellen White we have to read it within a context you know there's a cultural context there's also a a periodic context of how things are are done back in time so when Ellen writes writing they would use a lot of poisonous and toxic drugs but those toxic drugs are not really used today anymore a lot of the drugs have become more safer and they're no longer as toxic as it was and we have to recognize that there are some drugs which have benefit that outweigh the risks for example there are some cancers like lymphoma that if you use a certain medicine it has a 90% cure rate and for us to not use it and say I don't believe the data that shows there's 90% cure rate and instead use nothing I think that's also a bit a Miss for us for arate we know that it's a natural compound and it cures malaria or treats malaria so we should be using that right but let me tell you exactly what Ellen White was saying when attacked with disease many will not take time or trouble to search out the cause of their illness their Chief anxiety is to rid themselves of pain and inconvenience so they resort to these patent nostrums which is like drugs that they's taking of whose real property they know little or they apply to a physician for remedy to counteract the result of their misdoing with no thought of making a change in their unhealthful habits if immediate benefi benefit is not realized another medicine is tried and then another and then another so you see Ellen White really didn't focus on the evils of drug in itself but the fact that we are sinners are not fixing our issue and we're substituting drug for Divine Healing and asking God to heal us so that we can reverse our problems are you getting what I'm saying we're substituting drugs for what should be done in our heart which is a repentance and turning away from illness stopping to eat all the candy that's causing our cavity refrain from eating the foods that's making us sick with cancer and heart disease right there's another reason why drugs are continued and people keep giving and that's because we want to help them but we don't know what the problem is I'm sure you've experienced when you go to the doctor the doctor says oh I think you have this they give you drugs I think you have this I give you drugs right she says many lives have been sacrificed by the doctors administering drug for unknown disease they don't know what's the cause of the problem they don't know the exact disease but the Physicians are expected to know in a moment what to do and unless they act at once as though they understand the disease perfectly they are considered by their impatient friends and the sick as incompetent therefore to gratify erroneous opinions of the sick medicine is given experiments and tests tried to cure the patient of which they don't have any knowledge we're just impatient you go to the doctor you have pain you want it treated right now you don't want to wait you don't want to sacrifice and that is what Ellen White is telling us and that's what the Bible is telling us is the evil we want to fix things without sacrificing without making a change in our own life is that fair is that fair to God he says I want to help you but you don't want to help yourself I want to give this to you but you are refusing my help the person who suffers pain becomes impatient they are not willing to use a little self-denial and suffer a little from Hunger neither are they willing to wait the slow process to build up the overtax energies they are determined to obtain relief at once I want it now I don't want to wait you know there are some okay yes when I was telling you about my son how we went to the dentist the doctor said oh you know there's no cavity the teeth are okay but the teeth are having some problems where when he's chewing it's not aligning well so we need to put something in between the teeth to separate them so that they can um line up and they can match the teeth are a little bit crooked so they put in something called a separator a separator is a band where it separates the teeth it's exactly as it is it separates and as you can imagine when the teeth is separated it causes quite a bit of pain isn't it and he was crying and crying he said I'm in so much pain Dad this is painful please help me and I felt really bad you know I said how about we try chewing on some ice and how about we try using something to help with the swelling and the pain so we gave him some ice and we chewed on that he was still painful he was crying he was crying and I felt so terrible and I said here let me give you a little bit of medicine so we gave him some Panadol I we really don't use medicine in our family a lot like the last time I gave him Panadol was I think he had recovered from some surgery he had like he had a hernia repair and he needed something for the scar but you know is God going to say you gave your son this drug that's a terrible sin I'm not going to heal him God wants us to be healthy but he doesn't want us to suffer he doesn't when we are in pain you know who is also in pain Jesus is also in pain he's crying with us he's also there and as a as a parent of course I want him to be healthy but I know that you know I don't also want him to be sick and in pain right and let me give you an example of when we are impatient and we cannot wait so at our hospital as soon as somebody has any mind inconvenience they have a little bit of a headache they have a small fever they're coughing they immediately run to the hospital they say I'm coughing I say okay I'm sorry when when did your cough start oh it started this morning I'm coughing give me some medicine I have a pneumonia give me some cough medicine you know and then we we say how about before we do that let's figure out why you're coughing we so we examine them we maybe get an x-ray if it's needed and we find out that their cough is maybe from allergies or maybe their cough because um they didn't drink enough water and they're dehydrated how about fever they come in they're saying I have a fever I have a fever you need to treat the fever but what did Ellen White write she said we need to find the cause we need to ascertain the cause of why they're having a fever and a lot of the times we treat the fever we treat the pain without understanding why it's there is it possible that a fever can be helpful for us the function of a fever to raise the body's temperature is that it really helps boost our metabolism and our immune function so that our body can fight infection more effectively so when you have a cold when you have a flu and your body raises its temperature it's able to kind of rally the soldiers in the body your white cells and go to those areas and fight infection but what happens if you decrease the fever then you're limiting the body's ability to fight infection are you getting what I'm saying so Ellen White write Reasons from cause to effect in the case of the illness the cause must be ascertained let's let me give you another example let's say you have a man who comes to the clinic and in our region every single patient is tested for HIV it's a common test we screen everybody and then we do this routine test and we find out that he's positive so now we need to go through the investigation why is this patient positive so in my region we have quite a bit of polygamy so we say how many partners do you have he says well I have more Partners now I picked up a new wife we say I'm very sorry to hear that you've contracted this disease here some medicines go you know we're not telling them that the reason why they had the sickness to begin with was because they were Unfaithful and they had picked up more wives isn't that the curse of drugs sometimes the drug helps you to sin even more people are saying oh now I have this drug there's a cure for HIV I can do whatever I want you getting what I'm saying that's the danger and the curse of drugs who is this man earlier in the in the last session we had an Olympic runner but who is this man yeah it's kogi and this is someone who practices self-denial so why am i showing this picture what does it say up there no human is limited and this is something that he told other people when he was doing interviews he said the more the pain the more you're hitting your target you know I know that he has a smile and everybody says he's smiling he's happy when he's running but don't let the smile deceive you when you're running for like hundreds of kilometers and many many miles your legs will probably feel painful won't they but can you stop immediately as soon as you feel some small discomfort if he were to stop anytime his legs got a little sore he would never have won the Olympics right and that's the same with us if we want to recover we must put in the work you cannot just run to the dispensary take a drug and then just say that's that how many of us are willing to make a sacrifice so that we receive true healing in Kenya this is specifically in Nairobi there's been a lot of buildings which are falling down why is it there's a rule it says good cheap and fast you can have two of the three but you cannot have all three you can have it good and cheap you can have it good and fast or you can have it cheap and fast when you're making a building what happens is if you have something cheap and fast then it's poor quality right if you want something very good but fast it's expens expensive you have to spend a lot of money and if you want something good and cheap then it takes a lot of time the building may take many many years to come up and this is the same thing with our health we want something good cheap and fast with our health without putting work right we don't want to put work and we want to solve our problems with money but is this what God wants us to do what is the true way that God wants us to heal things so I think that many of us are maybe even more confused than when we first started because I've given you so many different things and you're saying I'm even more confused what is truth what is true healing you've told us all these things and you haven't really given us a definitive answer and you're right I haven't told you what's true and what's not true and I'm going to right now I promise okay usually most pastors they save their punch line for the end I'll tell you I'll tell you what's the truth okay so this is money okay money there's fake and there's real money do you know how people determine whether a money is fake or if it's real how can someone tell does any are any Bankers in here or any cashiers in here okay so this is how they tell when you are always touching the real authentic money you're always handling the real thing as soon as you touch something fake you're like uh this is fake this money is not real right that's how they tell and they've determined that that is a much more um positive predictor than anything else so the only way that we know if it's true healing is if we know what is authentic then when something goes off a little bit you say uh that is not what I was taught by the Bible that's not what God is telling me this is not real so the only way we can know what's fake is if we are absolutely sure what is real that's why we need a North star we need a compass this is what is real there are many ways of practicing The Healing Art but there is only one how many one one way that heaven approves of God's remedy is the simple agencies of nature pure air water cleanliness proper diet a purity of life and a firm trust in God are remedies for the want of which thousands of people are dying yet these remedies are going out of date because their skillful use requires work that people do not appreciate fresh air exercise water and clean sweet premises are within the reach of all but with little expense and this is what is amazing with God he doesn't make it so that health is expensive you don't need to go to India my friends you don't need to go anywhere else you don't need to go to a level six hospital all you need to do is find natural remedies if you were to drink enough water it would prevent so many different diseases dises that you wouldn't have to take medications for if you were to eat a healthy diet and exercise it would prevent so many cancers that are untreatable these cancers that even if you go to India they cannot treat and they send you right back to Kenya right you don't need to spend money for health even those herbs you know herbs are actually very cost prohibitive in Kenya the people who can afford herbs are usually the rich people you're getting me right those people who go to the Natural Food Stores or if you buy a bottle of Natural Therapy like hers it's very expensive in some cases it's cheaper to buy drugs in many cases actually but God's method is free you can open the window it doesn't cost any money the sunlight it he causes sun to shine on both the good and the bad right it's it's available for everybody but why are we so unsatisfied with God's results God is telling us to do this but we don't do it why is it you know the story of non right in 2 Kings 510 to13 Elijah said go wash yourself in the river seven times and your flesh will restored and you'll be cleansed but non went away happy did he he went away happy right no he went away angry and he said I thought that he would surely come out and stand out and call upon the name of the Lord and wave his hand over the spot and then cure me of some leprosy right are not my rivers in Damascus better than all these dirty Rivers couldn't I have washed then he went off in a rage the non servant said nonon my father if the prophet told you to do something really hard wouldn't you have done it so why does it he asked to do something so easy and you won't do it if I had a cancer patient come to me and I say you will be healed just take a goat carry it on your back and walk up Mount Kenya this person would probably do it right but if I told him go rest and really really re-evaluate your diet and cut out anything that's contributing to cancer you know what they would say that's too easy that's too simple I'm I'm not doing that and in fact this is a real story I have patients come to me to the hospital and they want treatment and when I tell them the way that God wants us to treat by fixing those issues losing the weight changing their diet avoiding things that are harmful for them quitting the alcohol they walk away and say I don't want to do that I don't believe you but this is what God is telling us these are God's counsel the very best medicine is the spirit of God the influence that the spirit of God is the best medicine can be received by a sick man or woman Heaven is all health and the more deeply the heaven influences is realized the more sure will be the recovery of the sick all throughout the week we've been talking about the problem of sin which is causing illness so what do you you think the Cure is for sin is Jesus this is the sanctuary message isn't it Jesus has given up his life so that we can have everlasting life if we seek God first all these things will be added what is all these things health is one of those things isn't it if you seek Jesus will not he give you Pure Health perfect health if you seek Jesus will he not take away cancer can Jesus treat you without any drugs yes he can in order for us to really come away from illness and have true health and true healing we must seek Jesus first and then we will have cure right I'm going to close with these lyrics which I I found very touching I've been listening to this choir from Uganda this choir is called Jehovah Shalom and they did a really really nice um arrangement of this song let me read to you the words I've got a message from the Lord hallelujah this is the message unto you all give to is recorded in his word hallelujah it's only that you'll look and live life is offered unto you Hallelujah eternal life your soul shall have if you only look to him look to Jesus who alone can save look and live my brother live look to Jesus now and live is recorded in his work Hallelujah that you only look and live so let us always focus our eyes on Jesus and live Everlasting let's pray God in heaven this world is full of so many confusing things and so much suffering and misery but you are the way you are the truth you are the life may we look upon you and live because only you can provide life Everlasting only you have Living Waters only you have we have true peace and pure joy so please Lord Deliver us from our sin help us to have a repentant heart and turn away from that which is causing us to be sick so that we may always keep our minds focused on you for now and all eternity in Jesus name amen
